Château Calon Ségur 2007

"An elegant, but decidedly earthy wine, the 2007 Calon Segur reveals attractive sweet cherry and red currant fruit intermixed with background soil undertones, and a round, spicy, medium-bodied, finesse-filled style. It should drink well for 7-8 years."

"Fine, spicy nose with herbaceous, berry aromas. Seamless, with rich flavours of ripe fruits and spice. Drink from 2012."
16.38/20, Decanter, 10/01/2011

"Milk chocolate aromas, with hints of nut and fruit, lead to a medium body, with good fruit and a silky finish. This lacks some fruit midpalate, but its pretty and delicious. A little chewy. Best after 2012."

Chateau Calon Segur is a Third Classified Growth since 1855. It is located to the north of the village of St-Estèphe on the left bank of the Gironde River, in the Haut Medoc Region.
This estate developed out of the Domaine de Calon which started to produce wine in the 13th century. The chateau was constructed at the end of the 16th century.
The most famous owner of this estate was the Marquis Alexandre de Segur, president of the Bordeaux parliament who owned several Grands Crus properties such as Lafite, Latour and Mouton. However his favourite Chateau was Calon: ‘I make wine at Lafite and Latour but my heart is at Calon.’ This is why a heart still appears on the Chateau Calon-Segur label.
Then, the Capbern Gasqueton family took over the property in the 19th century and started to produce a second wine: Chateau Capbern Gasqueton.
Following the death of Denise Capbern-Gasqueton in 2011, both estates were eventually sold in 2012 to Credit Mutuel Arkea.
