Burgans Albarino 2011

Add Your Review

A bright greenish yellow colour with golden highlights. Uniquely fruity aromas that are typical of the variety are present, highlighting hints of ripe apples, apricots, and peach aromas. On the palate it is rich, mellow and well-balanced. The aftertaste is fully rounded and off-dry on the palate with juicy fruit flavours, clean acidity and a long, mineral dominated finish.

The Burgan's Albariño is made by winemakers Luciano Amoedo and Katia Alvarez at the Martín Códax winery in Galicia. There are 450 hectares of vineyard planted to Albariño, which represents 13% of the total Rías Baixas DO. This is a co-operative winery that was founded in 1986 by a group of winemakers led by ninth generation winemaker Luciano Amoedo and currently comprises 2,400 tiny vineyard parcels individually managed by 550 families. Martín Códax was instrumental in the creation of the Rías Baixas DO in 1988 - in fact the statutes were signed at the winery - and are estate grown Albariño specialists, conducting ongoing research into the variety.
