L de Lyeth Sonoma County Merlot

Add Your Review

Ruby in colour with a purplish hue. Rich with aromas of vanilla, orange spice and red liquorice, followed by subtle hints of sandalwood, bright cherries, thyme and herbs de Provence. This medium-bodied Merlot is soft and plush, with notes of sweet oak, black tea, black pepper and briary fruits. The fine tannins are nicely integrated into the wine, making it approachable upon release.

Originally founded in 1981, Lyeth was one of the first wineries in California to blend Cabernet Sauvignon with the other major Bordeaux varieties. The winery built a formidable reputation during the 1980s, under the guidance of winemaker Bill Arbois, for the quality of its Cabernet and Merlot blends. When Burgundian Jean-Charles Boisset purchased the cult winery in 1994, he immediately contacted Bill and
brought him back on board.

Winemakers Note “Sonoma County's maritime proximity provides the stable, mild climate that is perfect for the production of premium Merlot. We source our grapes from throughout the county and aim to create a balanced blend that embodies the true taste of Sonoma County. This medium-bodied Merlot fills the front to mid palate with fresh summer strawberries, blackberries, and plums. The fine tannins are nicely integrated into the wine making it approachable upon release.”
