Tasted at the château. This is a very fine Alter Ego. A cool, mineral nose with blackberry, limestone and a scent of gravel and hedgerow. Very fine definition. The palate is quite attacking, racy acidity and a sharpness that lends this such lift and penetration. Very minerally with a silky smooth, very focused finish of blackberry, cedar and blueberries. More reserved that usual, but perhaps more sophisticated. - Robert Parker
Produced by the same team and from the same vineyards as Château Palmer, Alter Ego is literally the 'other side' of Palmer, another expression of Palmer. Alter Ego has the distinction and character of Palmer but is made to be drunk much earlier. Merlot is generally the dominant grape variety, making it supple and ready to open within 3 years of the harvest. A great wine with intense fruit, fresh and juicy.
In creating Alter Ego de Palmer, the aim is to retain the character of Château Palmer, in a supple and elegant wine that can be enjoyed when young. Produced on the fabulous Garonne gravel soils that have made the Margaux appellation famous all over the world, Alter Ego has the same finesse and aromatic complexity that make up the inimitable Palmer style.
