Alter Ego de Palmer 2006

Add Your Review

A robust nose of fruit - peaches, sour cherries, plums and blackberries. Clear notes of spice from its time spent in barrel; aromas of vanilla and cinnamon, some floral notes (violets), touches of smoke and a mineral aroma. The seductive attack immediately shows its ripe fruit and tender, yet very present, tannins. The wine develops smoothly and retains a flavourful presence that accompanies an irreproachable freshness. It is well balanced and unwavering with a long, delicious finish. This 2006, full of charm, will never abandon its noble origin, rigorous ageing and ideal blending. It’s pinnacle: 2010 to 2018.

“Fairly deep colour. Very attractive nose features pure fruit aromas that recall black cherry and blackberry. We also pick up violet with some minerality in the background. Powerful, youthful, and complex in the mouth, but it’s a bit rough right now. The ripe tannins are wrapped around the fruit; the wine is slightly off-centre this evening and clearly will benefit from cellaring. Long, straightforward, consistent finish.” – 92 Points, Robert Parker
Produced by the same team and from the same vineyards as Château Palmer, Alter Ego is literally the 'other side' of Palmer, another expression of Palmer. Alter Ego has the distinction and character of Palmer but is made to be drunk much earlier. Merlot is generally the dominant grape variety, making it supple and ready to open within 3 years of the harvest. A great wine with intense fruit, fresh and juicy.

In creating Alter Ego de Palmer, the aim is to retain the character of Château Palmer, in a supple and elegant wine that can be enjoyed when young. Produced on the fabulous Garonne gravel soils that have made the Margaux appellation famous all over the world, Alter Ego has the same finesse and aromatic complexity that make up the inimitable Palmer style.
