Château Coutet 2007 Barsac

A beautiful dress of light yellow with bright reflections. The nose releases initial notes of citrus fruits: lemon and grapefruit, with floral notes of acacia and hawthorn. When open, aromas of apricot, honey and plump white peach are detected. The palate experience is one of freshness and roundness with very ripe fruit and elegant oak. All this contributes to a beautiful liveliness, a wine full of vivacity. The finish is long and shows all the finesse of the Barsac terroir.

"Tasted single blind against its peers. The Chateau Coutet 2007 has a very intense bouquet with lemon curd and orange blossom mixed with clear honey. There is impressive precision here, almost crystalline. The palate is mediumbodied with very fine viscous entry, great weight and intensity with racy acidity. There is also much tension cutting through the layers of viscous fruit on the sorbet-like finish. This is a typical Coutet through and through and it should age effortlessly over 20-30 years. Tasted January 2011."

In 1787, former U.S. President Thomas Jefferson and then ambassador to France, mentioned Château Coutet as the best Sauternes from Barsac.
In 1855, the estate was classified as a First Growth and recognised for its continued excellence. Chateau Coutet is one of the oldest and largest Barsac estates. The average age of the vines is 35 years. The Chateau is managed by the Baly family and distributed by the Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A. company.
Previously owned by the Lur-Saluces family, the property was home to Chateau d’Yquem’s horse stables, transformed in the late 19th Century into the longest cellar in the appellation.
