.A very complex and highly fragrant bouquet with oriental spice aromas; a beautifully fine-grained palate, long, fine and gently savoury
5 stars, The Age (AUS), Ralph Kyte-Powell, 24 Jun 11 This Shiraz has complex aromas of minerally earth, leather and spice, berries and cherries. It's no Heathcote fruit bomb but has an almost Italian savouriness and a well-weighted medium-bodied palate of spicy cherry and plum-like fruit. Finely textured tannins and fresh acidity enhance its superb mouthfeel.
The 40-hectare site of the Greenstone Vineyard is situated north of the town of Heathcote, a 90 minute drive north of Melbourne. The name 'Greenstone' comes from the rocks coloured green by the oxidised iron in the soils. The owners include winemaking consultant Alberto Antonini and Mark Walpole, formerly chief viticulturist for Brown Brothers. 21 hectares are currently under vine.
