Bortolomiol Prosecco Prior Brut DOCG Magnum

Add Your Review

The fruity hints are very strong, with sharp green apple and citrus standing out and complemented by fresh floral hints. The agile flavour developing on the palette is felt at once, vital and dry.

The wine estate dates back to the mid 18th Century when Bartolomeo Bortolomiol started to grow grapes on the hillsides of Valdobbiadene. He passed on his passion to his son Giuliano who enrolled at the prestigious Conegliano Wine School. After the Second World War, the sight of the abandoned vines led to Giulano’s desire to bring them back to life and make Prosecco become a prestigious sparkling wine.

The Roman numeral underneath the label and the name Prior bear testament to the fact that Giuliano Bortolomiol had the intuition to create a brut Prosecco in 1960, at a time when it was only ever an Extra Dry. Prior symbolises Giuliano’s pioneering spirit and his belief in the Prosecco di Valdobbiadene (now Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg) and in the Martinotti Charmat sparkling wine-making method with fermentation in an autoclave, also known as the Italian Method..

Today, Giuliano’s wife and his four daughters are at the helm of the estate. Together they have invested a great deal of energy and resources into ensuring quality and maintaining the company’s strong links to the land and its history.

From their sense of responsibility as a leading producer of Prosecco Superiore and also fruit of a project for the creation of sustainable agriculture, Bortolomiol is experimenting with a new approach to growing – organic agriculture – in their own vineyards in the heart of Valdobbiadene. This is because they understand that the land must be protected so as to be passed on to future generations in the best possible health.
