The area around Mount Etna is a very special microclimate - unique in the whole island. Etnean wines benefit from the proximity of the sea and the particular volcanic soil but conditions can be very challenging for winemaking. Giuseppe Benanti has been making wine for many years, continuing an old family tradition. Giuseppe, with his sons Salvino and Antonio is at last reaping his well deserved success. Oenologist Salvo Foti, probably the greatest expert on Sicily's indigenous varieties, has also had important input. These wines are not cheap but they represent some of the highest quality wines coming out of Italy today. Awarded "Italian Winery of the Year" by Gambero Rosso in 2007 - taste any of these wines and you'll know why!
